Self-Help or Self-Improvement or Personal Growth. How Do I Define My Life’s Journey?

It has been my Life’s mission to chart a path for growth and transformation. Since I was a young lady I gravitated towards all the books that promised me just that. As I seek to disseminate the knowledge, I question the virtues and opinions of the success formulas and the opinions of their proponents.

Before it was trendy to be a life coach, I dreamed I would amass enough knowledge and fine-tune my message to distinguish myself. Picking a new book, consuming a new theory, a universal law, a success principle, would make me giddy. I would envision swimming with dolphins in my castle oasis-island pool built of efforts and energy manifested by my well-developed ideas. Instead, it has been a life-long journey of healing and discovery.

Decades into my startling realizations, I am aware of the areas where I still need further development. My subconscious mind rules and plays a cheap trick on me and my conscious efforts. What are my original thoughts or ideas after having consumed the ruminations of dozens of others?

So, we need to talk about the success rate with the many personal growth and development programs or courses. We see these stellar examples of success and feel the pressure to succeed, to outthink, and to outperform. There are volumes on the “laws of success”, on “success paradigms”, on the correct “mindset”, and those pesky “limiting beliefs”.

Yes, work needs to be done. It took me 20 plus years to learn how to voluntarily stop personal suffering and become friends with my wonderful and magnificent mind. I started with draining the swamp of the past and harnessing all my energy, my thought, and my resources into living in the present and leaning into the future.

Knowing this, I ask you to please craft a personal growth and development plan for yourself. Ask yourself a set of key questions. Not which skills you obtained, not which talents you possess, nor which opportunities you have within grasp, but why are you here? What is your purpose? Where will you serve? I have come to believe this is truly the key … and I do mean the key to unlock the success of which we were intended. “Know Your Why and You Can Fly!”

After that, as many of the great authors and luminaries state,” your network is your net worth.” So surround yourself with successful mentors and inspiring friends with an excellent character who support your purpose. Then what will catapult you to success is often wise counsel, good connections, and some brilliant strategies.

So ask your guardian angel, God, the Universe- what can you do to fulfill your purpose and create and have a bigger impact in our world?

Then determine what abilities you can better learn and fill a need to accelerate your success. With discipline, it still may take a year or several years to maneuver on your way to your inspired path. Drill down, create a schedule and practice your craft daily with passion, fervor, and focused intent. What is your purpose? That is for you and God to determine. Go ahead, embark on your hero’s journey!

P.S. I really wanted to go to the bookstore and buy more books to read, reflect on, study, savor, and then get better at writing summaries and synopses and the “secret sauce”- spice which my creative genius partner supplied me with today. I came across “I Didn’t Do The Thing Today: Letting Go of Productivity Guilt” by Madeline Dore.

So, I forgive myself for not always being the most productive superhuman machine and knocking my socks off- (pun intended- why do you think I need more colorful and creative socks?) but sometimes you “Just Be” like D.J. Tiesto taught us in the wonderful song and music video ah, my good times’ past theme song…

Now you must like, comment, subscribe, and follow me for more tidbits and nuggets of wisdom in the now and forevermore- slightly giggling to herself…
